ΚΑΛΟ Athens Expo ‘18

The Client
Initiated by the Hellenic Ministry of Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity, the second expo for Social and Solidarity Economy eventuated from the 7th to the 11th of November 2018, in Sofokleous, one of the most key streets in the heart of the historic centre of Athens, and prior venue of Greece’s stock market. Following its first successful organization in 2017, Κ.ΑΛ.Ο. [kalò] Athens Expo ‘18 sought for an event that would highlight social economy’s vivid and evolving character, while bolding its presence in Greece’s economic scenery.
The Objective
The main goal was to create an event identity that would build awareness about social economy and its compelling value for a wide spectrum of business sectors. For five days, Sofokleous street was about to become an open hub for discussions and meet-ups; an urban agora hosting talks and workshops on a variety of topics, such as agriculture, new technologies, culture, social welfare and more. To highlight the precepts of get-togetherness and social inclusion, while having to reconstruct the stock market’s economic and political connotations, the need for a daring event identity, which would still be in tune with the expo’s anthropocentric character, was prominent.
The Solution
The focal point of our work was people’s assembly in the historic centre of Athens. Our key visual was mainly based on illustrations visualizing people’s interaction, community liveliness and social diversity, in a daring, yet concept-wise familiar and engaging way. Featuring abstract figures connected through the dynamic flux of communication, our solution also applied to denote the six different subject areas and visually band together expo’s hub points and co-occurring events.
